How The Help Edinburgh came about:
My name is Heather Bownass. I’ve always been a professional organiser in one context or another.
Like so many people, at 40, I was looking for a new and more meaningful direction. A year of world travel and adventures followed, with just a backpack in tow. The trip really highlighted the benefits of a simple and uncluttered life….and my business idea was born; to combine the practical organisational skills I’ve learnt along the way with helping everyday people to create less ‘cluttered’ lives.
Twenty first century living can be complex. I have close to home experience of some of life’s bigger challenges/events and believe that we ALL need some assistance from time to time. I bring no judgment; my job is to assist you to streamline your home AND life when things get complicated and to hopefully move you forward to a calmer and more enjoyable phase.
Who do I work with?
Decluttering, home organisation and home staging services can hugely benefit just about anyone. I have enjoyed working with a diverse range of clients over the years. I work with families, individuals, mums and dads, busy professionals, retirees ….and pretty much everyone in between. What my clients have in common generally speaking is a feeling of overwhelm for all sorts of reasons. Many are dealing with the pressures of combining work demands with running a family & home, others may be experiencing tricky life changes such as: a growing family, house moves/relocation, downsizing, bereavement, divorce and relationship breakdowns – the list goes on.
My professional background
I’ve worked in large teams and one to one and think you could say that I’m a down to earth all rounder who enjoys people, problem solving and getting things done.
Previous professional roles over the last 25 years include:
- Office/Facilities Manager of a corporate HQ of 100+ employees
- Researcher and PA (BBC radio)
- Coordinator/PA in Film and television industry
Other previous roles (volunteering) include:
- Learning Support for both adults and children with learning disabilities
- Project work for The Prince’s Trust with unemployed 16-24 year olds
- Contact the Elderly – tea parties for isolated elderly people in Edinburgh
Making the first move
I understand that each client’s needs are different and that allowing a complete stranger into your home/life can be a daunting prospect. Firstly you are assured of discretion and confidentiality from your first contact. I understand that clients can feel embarrassed that they need some help – please don’t, we can all benefit from a helping hand when life gets complicated.
All services, whether hands on help or declutter lesson/advice/coaching, are provided by me personally with care and to YOUR specification. I am PVG checked.
Once you’ve had a look at the services & pricing pages, if you think you may be ready to invest in this life changing process, do feel free to give me call for an informal chat, or drop me a line via e mail or contact form. I’d love to hear from you and am open to discussing how I might assist you – starting a conversation comes with no obligation so nothing to lose.

What clients say about Heather
My whole house is now one organised working machine (except for the occupants!)… I’m almost sorry we have finished and would recommend Heather to anyone!
Fiona
– Musselburgh
Aside from actually getting the job done, the ownership Heather takes completely takes away the stress. I only wish I could transport her to London to manage my life down here as well as she does my Scottish one!
Kim
– Hillside
I would recommend Heather if you want to get your life sorted.
Suzanne
– Craigleith
Heather was hardworking, patient and a real pleasure to work with. You can tell she cares about what she does and the difference it can make to people’s lives. She’s also extremely trustworthy so I felt very much at ease having her in my home. Thank you so much Heather! I couldn’t have done it without you.
